My interview in LeadDev on Generative AI and the widening software developer knowledge gap
My comments on Gen AI adoption have been picked up in the leading tech publication LeadDev.
Like any innovation, Gen AI has the potential to transform the way we work, but leaders need to be strategic in how they deploy it. As I mention in the article, "There is a risk that AI hollows out software engineering expertise. We are already seeing continued demand for software developers, but the demand is skewing towards more senior engineers, creating a glut of junior talent and not enough roles to fill them."
If you rush to adopt Gen AI without considering how it is deployed and how it helps your engineers and team grow, you risk degrading your talent over time. I believe it is incumbent on leaders to develop a bona fide AI adoption strategy, which adequately considers the opportunity from a lens of transformation, innovation, and change management. Too many leaders are ignoring their people in favour of the technology, or they are discounting the value AI can add to their team and their products. There is a healthy middle ground, but you need to be intentional in finding it.
